Lord Young Quits After Appalling Statements

Click to go to news item on BBC websiteThe author of the Con-dem(ned) government's attack on Health & Safety legislation has been forced to resign following appalling statements to a journalist, claiming that 'we haven't had it so good' and that there is no real recession.

He is quoted by BBC News and other media outlets to have said: "the vast majority of people in the country today, they have never had it so good ever since this recession - this so-called recession - started."

It just shows how he and the majority of the government millionaires don't live in the real world, and given his health & safety review, it is not surprising he comes out with such a political gaffe.

But there are those who believe he was telling it how it is and that the mainstream Tories see it that way.

Following reports of his resignation, Labour leader Ed Miliband said Lord Young's initial appointment reflected badly on the prime minister as the peer was "out of touch with people".

He told BBC News: "Lord Young is right to go, I think his remarks are frankly disgraceful and many of the people who are struggling up and down this country with the consequences of the recession that we had, the consequences of the spending cuts that we are seeing, will be insulted by his comments".

He added: "Part of what this government has to do is demonstrate they do understand the consequences of the decisions they are making and the way people are struggling every day in our economy. I'm worried that people like Lord Young indicate a government that doesn't understand that."
